ASTANA, February 15 - RAPSI. A 15-year-old male student diagnosed as being pregnant has received 50,000 tenge (about $330) in moral damages from the Aktobe Emergency Hospital in Kazakhstan, the local KTK channel reported on Friday.
The absurd diagnosis was issued to Baizhan Aldashev after a series of kidney tests.
The doctors apparently mixed up his tests with a female patient's and prescribed him medicines that are usually recommended for pregnant women.
His parents said his condition only worsened after taking the medicines. The family then filed a 10 million tenge ($67,000) lawsuit.
The court recognized the doctors' guilt in part and awarded 50,000 tenge in moral damages to the family, the television channel said.
The plaintiff will likely appeal the ruling because the compensation amount is too small, Yuri Filchukov, who represents the family, said in an interview with KTK.
Aldashev's physician Mukhit Baizakhov pleaded innocent in the case and said the patient received all the necessary medical assistance.
He explained the absurd diagnosis in his records by a computer bug.
