MOSCOW, March 15 - RAPSI. The Moscow Commercial Court has ordered a businessman to stop using the mexx.ru website and fined him 150,000 rubles ($4,870) for violating Mexx Europe B.V.'s brand, RAPSI reports from the courtroom on Friday.

A Mexx attorney said during the hearing that the Dutch company owns the disputed brand in 25 Nice classes of goods, including garments and footwear.

The company uses domain names including its brand across the world.

Meanwhile, businessman Vladislav Mukhin registered the mexx.ru website, which violated the company's rights, the lawyer said. The company has already tried to settle the dispute out of court, but Mukhin asked for 15,000 to stop using the website. The domain name was apparently registered to be resold, the attorney said.

Neither Mukhin nor his representatives attended the hearing.

Mexx was established in the Netherlands in 1986 by Indian-born businessman Rattan Chadha. The company is a leading fashion industry producer, manufacturing garments, accessories, and perfumes, and a range of household items. In 2012, the company operated 95 mono-brand stores in Russia and planned to open another 15.
