MOSCOW, March 25 - RAPSI, Maria Petrova. Elina Karpova, a resident of Russian city Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea, has filed a 90,000 ruble ($2,910) defamation suit with Kalinigrad's Moskovsky District Court against her acquaintances who posted her photographs on the VKontakte social network with comments which accused her of involvement in terrorism, the court told RAPSI on Monday.
VKontakte is a Russian version of Facebook and is one of the country's most visited sites.
The prehearing has been set for April 11.
According to Karpova's lawsuit, her acquaintances Marina Bychinskaya and Svetlana Lozhkina posted photographs of her on their VKontakte page without her permission and made slanderous comments, accusing Karpova of involvement in terrorism. Karpova has said that racially offensive statements were also made.
The court's press secretary said that other VKontakte users then proceeded to discuss these comments actively for several days.
Elina Karpova said in her lawsuit that the photographs and comments Bychinskaya and Lozhkina posted are personally offensive towards her, damage her honor and dignity and have caused her moral suffering.
Karpova is seeking 40,000 rubles ($1,290) in damages from Bychinskaya and 50,000 rubles ($1,620) from Lozhkina.
She has also asked the court to denounce the information posted about her on the social network as untrue and damaging to her honor and dignity and to order the plaintiffs to publicly refute it.
