MOSCOW, April 10 - RAPSI. The public prosecution department of the Netherlands has charged a former Dutch Foreign Ministry employee with selling state information to Russia. If proven guilty, he will face 15 years in prison, the DutchNews website writes.
The police arrested 61-year-old Raymond P., former Dutch Vice Consul in Hong Kong, at Schiphol airport in March 2012. He is suspected of selling political and military secrets relating to the EU and NATO to a couple in Germany, who then passed them on to the Russian secret service.
Officials found four USB sticks in his luggage containing confidential information, while hundreds of documents were later found at his home, DutchNews writes.
The prosecution believes that the couple, known as Andreas and Heidrum Anschlag, may have been working for the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).
According to media reports, Andreas and Heidrum Anschlag moved to Germany at the end of the 1980s, pretending to be Austrians of South American origin, the Dutch news agency writes. They were detained in 2011 and their trial began in January 2013. They face a maximum 10 years in prison.
