BANGKOK, May 20 (RAPSI) - Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky cannot leave for Moscow until his case in Cambodia is closed, one of his Cambodian attorneys told RIA Novosti by telephone on Monday.
The Ostankinsky Court of Moscow on Monday granted the request of his lawyers that Polonsky be delivered to Moscow for the hearing into a beating involving banker Alexander Lebedev. The court will issue a warrant for Polonsky and send it to his residential address.
The scuffle ensued after Polonsky accused Lebedev of spreading a rumor about a crack in the skyscraper his firm was building for the Moscow International Business Center.
"Sergei Polonsky has been released on $50,000 bail and must remain in the country. His case is being considered by the Sihanoukville court, and he cannot leave for Moscow until the Cambodian judge delivers his ruling," Polonsky's attorney said.
"Although there is a good chance his case will be closed, it is impossible to forecast the judges decision or the time when it may be taken," the Cambodian attorney added.
Once one of Russia's wealthiest men, Polonsky was detained together with two Russian companions, Konstantin Baglay and Alexander Karachinsky, on December 30, 2012, for attacking the six-person crew of a boat ferrying them from a Cambodian island to Sihanoukville.
The three Russians allegedly threatened the crew at knifepoint and locked them in a cabin. Baglay and Karachinsky were released on bail on March 11, 2013.
