VOLGOGRAD, May 27 (RAPSI) - The Volgograd City Court will consider sending a 24-year-old local resident for mandatory psychiatric treatment after he built a bunker beneath his garage and stocked up on arms in fear of a global armed conflict.
The man built a bunker in the basement of his garage in central Volgograd, and stockpiled weapons and food there, the regional prosecutor's office said. He also planned to dig a tunnel leading to the bunker.
"During questioning, he said he was trying to protect himself and his family, in view of the complex international situation and ongoing armed conflicts," the prosecutors said.
In this regard, he purchased ammo and three dummy Kalashnikovs which he reengineered as operational weapons.
A forensic medical examination has revealed signs he is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and a hallucinatory syndrome.
The investigators have identified the seller of the as a police inspector from the department of cooperation with state authorities. The case against the policeman will be considered separately.
