MOSCOW, 3 June (RAPSI) - The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) paid out GBP 2,200 to a pet owner after the noise from a low-flying Royal Air Force (RAF) plane scared his parrot to death, The Mirror reported Monday.
The MoD has reportedly coped with 200 separate claims in the past three years arising from low-flying aircraft. According to The Mirror, these claims have brought on approximately GBP 1.4 million in payouts.
Among those was a separate parrot-based claim: another bird had earlier fallen from its perch as a result of a low-flying military aircraft, breaking both of its legs. In that case, the MoD agreed to pay the bird's veterinary bills, according to The Mirror.
"The MoD will authorise payment of reasonable ex-gratia compensation where a link can be established between MoD military low-flying activity and any subsequent loss or injury sustained by a claimant," The Mirror quoted an MoD spokesperson as having said.
