MOSCOW, June 3 (RAPSI) - The Moscow Commercial Court has granted an application filed by the Russian telecommunications authority Roskomnadzor to fine Russia's postal service Pochta Rossii 30,000 rubles for violating mail delivery terms, Digit.ru reported, citing a statement released by the authority.
An unscheduled inspection was held by the Federal Service for the Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media following a citizen's appeal on the violation of Russian postal service regulations. The inspection revealed that the company delayed the delivery of a registered letter from Krasnodar to Moscow, thus violating the obligatory requirements of its postal services license.
Vladimir Pikov, the watchdog's spokesperson, told Digit.ru that the agency held some 250 inspections based on citizens' complaints in April and May. All inspections resulted in reports filed, or prepared for filing, on the postal service's administrative violations.
Last week, the Prosecutor General's Office reported that 13 cases were launched against the postal service for delaying parcels at Moscow airports.
The inspection followed media reports concerning a large number of parcels that had accumulated at the airports. Prosecutors found that the unprocessed parcels and correspondence from March were kept at Sheremetyevo Airport as of April 17.
Similar violations were observed at Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports. The cases were launched according to the article on performing business activities and violations of special permission terms, which stipulates a fine of up to 40,000 roubles.
