CAIRO, July 16 (RAPSI, Rafael Daminov) - Egyptian authorities have detained 401 people during overnight clashes between police and the supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. At least seven people were killed and over 200 were wounded, the MENA official news agency reported.
On Monday night, tens of thousands of Morsi supporters blocked several roads in Cairo and a bridge connecting several city districts. The police used shotguns and tear gas to disperse them.
Clashes also took place in other parts of the city that lasted into small hours on Tuesday.
Morsis supporters said they are ready to take other "extreme but peaceful measures until the military reinstate the elected president."
Essam al-Arian, deputy chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party, which is a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, told RIA Novosti that unless the army reinstates Morsi in the next few days the protesters would have to resort to other "extreme but peaceful measures."
"We will do our best to regain the legitimacy that has been stolen from us, using different methods ranging from civil disobedience campaigns to blocking transportation in Egypt," al-Arian said. "We will block routes and railroads and we will go to the Defense Ministry and other leading state agencies."
Egypt's military deposed Morsi on July 3 after days of mass street protests calling for him to step down.
Morsi's supporters said he was ousted by a military coup that overturned democratic rule.
