MOSCOW, November 1 (RAPSI) – New hearing into the case of Semyon Varlamov, the Russian goalkeeper for the US National Hockey League (NHL) team the Colorado Avelanche, who’s charged with domestic abuse is set for November 14.
At the preliminary hearing, the court released Varlamov on $5,000 bail, and issued a restraining order, which prohibits him to approach the alleged victim, Russian model Yevgenia Vavrinyuk.
Varlamov, 25, turned himself in Wednesday and spent the night in jail, the Denver Post reported.
Varlamov’s girlfriend told police that at her home Monday, the hockey star knocked her to the ground, stomped on her chest with his foot, dragged her by her hair into another room, according to a Denver police report released Thursday.
She claims he told her in Russian that “if this were Russia, he would have beat her more,” according to the report.
Varlamov’s team profile describes the 25-year-old goalkeeper as a 6’2, 209 lb. native of Samara, Russia, who has played an active role in a community service program aimed at teaching kids how to skate for free. The profile asserts that he has represented Russia in eight major international events, including the 2010 Olympics.
The Colorado Avalanche issued a statement Wednesday night asserting its awareness, as well as its present intent to refrain from commenting: "The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."
