MOSCOW, April 28 (RAPSI) – A court in Egypt on Monday sentenced the Supreme Guide of Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie and 682 supporters of the movement to death, AFP reports.
Since Badie is now evading the Egyptian justice, the sentence was issued in absentia.
The judges also reviewed the previous ruling against another 529 movement’s supporters, who were sentenced to death in March. They were found guilty in attacking a police station and killing an officer in last August. According to the new ruling, most of the accused sentences were mitigated from death penalty to life in prison.
Political leader of the Botherhood, President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the Egyptian army in July 2013. Most of the defendants were arrested following the dispersal of two Muslim Brotherhood protest camps in mid-August.
