KIEV, July 2 (RAPSI) – The Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration has requested that Ukrainian President Poroshenko send the Association Agreement with the EU for ratification to Parliament, committee chairman Hryhorii Nemyria (Batkivshchyna) said on Wednesday.
The economic part of the agreement, which Petro Poroshenko signed last week, provides for creating a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry hopes the parliament will ratify the agreement in July.
Ukraine signed the political section of the agreement in March.
“The Committee on European Integration discussed this issue yesterday (on Tuesday) and decided to submit a request to the president to send the document for ratification,” Nemyria said in the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday.
He added that the parliament had registered a draft resolution that included this recommendation and that Batkivshchyna proposed ratifying the document on Thursday.
Verkhovna Rada speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said the parliament would discuss the document as soon as the president submits it for ratification.
