MOSCOW, July 28 (RAPSI) – On July 28, the Russian food safety agency, Rosselkhoznadzor, initiated an inspection of McDonald’s cheese suppliers who are suspected of adding antibiotics to their produce, agency head Sergei Dankvert told Itar-Tass.
“Rosselkhoznadzor will more closely monitor cheese imports for tetracycline content, including cheese purchased by McDonald’s,” Dankvert said. He added that McDonald’s mostly uses cheeses imported from Germany and the Czech Republic.
On Friday, a Tverskoy Court spokesperson in Moscow told RIA Novosti that the Novgorod Region branch of the consumer rights agency, Rospotrebnadzor, could prohibit McDonald’s from producing cheeseburgers, royal cheeseburgers, filet-o-fish, chicken burgers, berry smoothies and milkshakes in Russia.
According to the food safety agency, McDonald’s products – burgers, drinks and ice-cream – contain amounts of fat, protein and carbohydrates as well as calorific values that differ from the amounts listed by McDonald’s.
