MOSCOW, January 20 (RAPSI) – A court in Kiev has issued an arrest warrant for former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, according to a statement of Prosecutor General’s Office released on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the issuance of an arrest order against Yanukovich enables investigators to demand his extradition from Russia.
Earlier, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Yanukovich, his son Aleksandr, ex-Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, ex-Healthcare Minister Raisa Bohatyryova and ex-Finance Minister Yuriy Kolobov.
According to Yanukovich’s Interpol profile, he is wanted in Ukraine for misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation, if committed in respect of an especially gross amount, or by an organized group.
In mid-January, Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office said that there were no requests from Ukrainian authorities for extradition of Yanukovich and other officials. If the prosecutors receive such requests, they will be considered in accordance with international agreements and Russian legislation, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said.
