BANGKOK, January 27 (RAPSI) – Russian businessman Nikolai Doroshenko, who is living in Cambodia, has not been arrested in the case initated by his rival, infamous Russian developer Sergei Polonsky, and is not in hiding, his lawyer told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
He said the media reports had not been confirmed and no court decisions had been made. “Nikolai Doroshenko is living in Sihanoukville, goes to his office, is not hiding from anyone, and no one is looking for him,” attorney Sergei Sayapin said in a statement.
He said that the information from Sergei Polonsky’s press secretary, who said that a Cambodian court had arrested Doroshenko in absentia, had not been verified.
According to The Cambodia Daily, a provincial court has charged Doroshenko with breach of trust and ordered that he be detained for failing to hand over investment licenses for four islands off the coast of Sihanoukville to his longtime rival, Sergei Polonsky. It also cited a Cambodian police officer as saying that Doroshenko was in hiding.
A conflict between Doroshenko and Polonsky over Koh Muoy, Koh Pi, Koh Damlong and Koh Pring islands off Sihanoukville flared up several years ago.
In March 2013, Doroshenko allegedly signed contracts to hand over the investment licenses for the islands to Polonsky within three and a half months from the date of signing but has not honored this contract.
