MOSCOW, March 5 (RAPSI) - The Moscow District Military Court has sentenced Ravil Abdullov, a resident of Mordovia who was charged with assisting terrorism, to five years in prison and imposed a 200,000 ruble fine ($3,250) on him, the Prosecutor’s Office of Mordovia reported Thursday.
On Wednesday, the court held an offsite hearing in Saransk, Mordovia.
The Prosecutor’s Office holds that between February 23 and April 2, 2014, Abdullov, at the request of a relative who is a member of an illegal armed group operating in Syria against the government forces, collected money to purchase firearms. The defendant managed to collect over $1,300, which he handed over to his relative.
“Ravil Abdullov therefore provided financial assistance to terrorist activity,” the report states.
The court order has not taken effect yet.
