MOSCOW, April 27 (RAPSI, Diana Gutsul) – Moscow's Zuzinsky District Court dismissed a libel lawsuit which had been filed by the Russian branch of Greenpeace against Russian state-run television channel NTV, Greenpeace wrote on its Twitter account on Monday.
The suit was brought after the channel aired a report in September 2013 saying that Greenpeace payed for killing kangaroos and that activities of the organisation were financed by the US authorities.
Greenpeace demanded that the channel retract the statements made in the report.
The Russian branch of Greenpeace argued that the information cited in the NTV broadcast was untrue and that it damaged its business reputation, because it did not specify which regional group of the global organization was involved in the campaign to urge kangaroo consumption to fight global warming.
In 2007, Greenpeace urged Australians to substitute some red meat for roo meat to help reduce land clearing and the release of methane gas from cattle and sheep. The recommendation was included in the Paths to a Low-Carbon Future report commissioned by Greenpeace.
