KREMS AN DER DONAU, July 21 (RAPSI) – A court in the city of Krems an der Donau in Austria gave an 18-year-old Chechen a suspended 10-month prison term for joining Islamic State (ISIS) and justifying terrorist attacks, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.
According to the indictment, the young man was charged with posting information praising ISIS on Facebook. Investigators claimed that he also sought out those who shared or could share the ISIS ideology.
When making a ruling in the case, the court took into account the defendant’s young age and the fact that he stopped supporting ISIS. The court also said that his previous decent life was a mitigating circumstance, while making pro-ISIS entries on Facebook for a relatively long time was an aggravating factor.
The trial was held behind closed doors. The sentence has not yet come into force, RIA was told at the court.
