MOSCOW, August 17 (RAPSI) - Sergei Azarskov, a top executive at the bankrupt travel company Labirint who has been arrested in Serbia on fraud charges, will be extradited to Russia, Kommersant newspaper reported on Monday.
In September 2014, the Moscow City Court upheld a ruling on Azarskov’s arrest in absentia. He was put on the international wanted list.
Kommersant reports that the extradition order was issued by a Serbian court in Užice as a result of a petition by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office. Quoting the prosecutor’s office, the newspaper reported that the case materials on the Labirint co-owner were sent to Belgrade on July 24. However, Serbia’s official decision has not yet reached the Prosecutor General’s Office in Moscow.
Labirint suspended operations in August 2014. Reportedly, almost 30,000 clients needed assistance to return to Russia. The tourists were brought home group by group.
Since last summer over a dozen Russian travel agencies have closed, including Neva, Roza Vetrov Mir, Expo Tour, Labirint, Intaer, Solvex Turne, Yuzhny Krest. The Russian Travel Industry Union reported that between July and September 2014 about 130,000 Russians have been affected by the closures.
