MOSCOW, December 8 (RAPSI) – First sentence handed down in Russia for joining the Islamic State militants, has become effective, Yulia Skotnikova, spokesperson for the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow told RAPSI on Tuesday.
According to investigators, the convicted person, Tural Ragimov left for Syria and took part in the war against official power of the country.
The court has found Ragimov guilty of participating in the armed group, whose activities conflict with Russia’s interests, and sentenced him to four years in prison. After release Ragimov’s freedom will be restricted for two years. During this time he will be obliged to stay at home from 10 pm to 6 am and prohibited from participation in mass events.
The Islamic State is currently one of the major threats to global security. Over three years, these terrorists have managed to seize large areas of Iraq and Syria. The organization is also attempting to spread its influence to North Africa – particularly, Libya. The area controlled by ISIS covers up to 90,000 square kilometers.
