MOSCOW, December 8 (RAPSI) - Denis Lutskevich, who was convicted for participation in the riots on Bolotnaya Square on May 6, 2012, has served his 3.5-year term and was released from the prison in the Tula Region, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday citing a representative for the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
The march on Yakimanka Street and the rally on Bolotnaya Square in May 2012, both authorized by the officials, resulted in mass riots and clashes with the police. Dozens of people were injured, over 400 protesters were detained.
The riot organizers, Sergei Udaltsov and Leonid Razvozzhayev, were sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. Other participants received prison terms from suspended sentences to four years. Several defendants were pardoned; one is undergoing compulsory mental treatment.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in September ordered Russia to pay in total 7,000 EUR in compensation to defendants in the Bolotnaya Square riots case, Artem Savyolov, Leonid Kovyazin and Ilya Gushchin. This was its first ruling in this case.
