MOSCOW, December 14 (RAPSI) – The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has filed a cassation appeal against Moscow court’s decision in Ukraine’s 3,24 billion hryvnas ($136 million) dispute with Russia, according to court records.
In 2012, the Kiev Economic Court ruled that Ukrainian government should compensate the Russian Defense Ministry for 3,24 billion hryvnas (then $390 million) in order to resolve the debt of United Energy Systems of Ukraine.
In 2014, the court voided its ruling and ordered to collect 38,7 million hryvnas ( then $3.4 million) from the Russian Defense Ministry in favor of the Ukrainian treasury. However, Russia’s lawsuit was dismissed.
Ukraine asked a Moscow court to admit and enforce this decision. The Moscow Commercial Court on October 23 dismissed the claim.
The debt accured in the 1990s when the corporation was headed by Yulia Tymoshenko.
Russia has maintained that the debt stems from the corporation's failure to execute its 1997 agreement to supply goods to the ministry.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko has provided the Russian Defense Ministry with written guarantees that the debt would be paid.
