MOSCOW, January 19 (RAPSI) – One of the largest and most troubled Russian airlines, Transaero, appealed a lower court’s ruling to pay 7,9 million rubles ($100,000) to Blagoveshchensk Airport in the Sixth Commercial Court of Appeals, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.

On November 30, the Amur Region Commercial Court ruled in favor of the Blagoveshchensk Airport in a lawsuit against Transaero.

Transaero was not able to pay its debts estimating 15,8 million rubles ($200,000) to the airport in 2015. The airline voluntarily paid half of the sum, other half is to be paid in accordance with the court’s ruling.

Transaero found itself unable to pay its debts estimating 250 billion rubles ($3.5 billion). Government-approved plan of transferring 75% of company’s shares to Aeroflot failed. Its problems resulted in a large number of flight cancels and delays.

In October, Sberbank and Alfa Bank filed bankruptcy petitions against the troubled airline. The Commercial Court of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region initiated a bankruptcy procedure against Transaero on December 16.
