MOSCOW, April 11 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Presnensky Court has placed Yulia Anikeyeva, former president of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) charged with embezzling over 20 million rubles ($296,500), under house arrest until May 29, the court’s spokesperson Nina Yurkova told RAPSI on Monday.
A criminal case was launched against Anikeyeva in December 2015 based on the results of financial audit conducted at the RBF after a change of management.
According to investigators, between February 20, 2014 and August 24, 2015 Anikeyeva embezzled over 20 million rubles allocated for sports development by conclusion fictitious civil law contracts with private entrepreneurs.
Anikeyeva could face up to 10 years in prison.
