MOSCOW, July 4 (RAPSI) – Russia’s Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a 15-year prison sentence and a 100,000-ruble fine given to a resident of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, Jesus (Kazbek) Bostanov, for calls to terrorism, RAPSI reports from the courtroom.
Bostanov was convicted and sentenced on January 12. Additionally, he was found guilty of assassination attempt on law enforcement officers, threats to a prosecutor, incitement of hatred and enmity and illegal arms trafficking.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, the man admitted that he had threatened the prosecutor in court because of emotional state.
According to investigators, in July 2015, Bostanov pushed people for jihad and joining illegal armed group in Syria during a service at a mosque in one of the republic’s villages. On August 25, 2015, he struggled on arrest and fired three shots at law enforcement officers. During the searches at his premises, the Kalashnikov gun, grenade ammunition and bullets were seized.
Moreover, Bostanov has threatened life and health of the prosecutor at a court hearing promising him to “make the finishing head-shot.”
