MOSCOW, April 20 (RAPSI) – The Supreme Court of Russia has obligated the St. Petersburg City Court to review an appeal against blocking of website on cryptocurrencies bitcoininfo.ru, the court’s press service has told RAPSI.

In 2016, the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg has granted a request of prosecutors and blocked the website. The court held that information on bitcoins, which it considered to be “a mean of virtual payment and accumulation”, violated Russian legislation.

The applicant noted that the owner of the website was not invited to participate in the hearings. The decision was appealed with the city court but the latter preferred not to review it.
