MOSCOW, May 7 (RAPSI) - Moscow Region’s Ecology Ministry and office of Russia’s consumer rights protection agency Rospotrebnadzor have joined a lawsuit to shut down the notorious Yadrovo landfill site leaking noxious gas as third parties, RAPSI reports from the Volokolamsk City Court in the Moscow Region.
The lawsuit was filed by residents of Volokolamsk against Yadrovo company that manages the landfill. There are 17 plaintiffs in the case; they demand to restitute their right to favorable environment, transfer the dump under the control of authorities and stop collection and transportation of dangerous components. Moreover, they seek compensation for moral harm totaling to 2.4 million rubles.
The next hearing has been set for May 30.
Earlier, the court dismissed similar lawsuits against the landfill.
In March, the Volokalamsk district’s authorities initiated emergency protocol and announced measures to liquidate the consequences of ecological violations during exploitation of the landfill. Yadrovo company was fined 150,000 rubles ($2,300) by the Volokolamsk City Court.
