MOSCOW, August 17 (RAPSI) – The Moscow City Court on Friday upheld a 30-day detention of Russian opposition activist Sergey Udaltsov for violating a procedure of holding a rally, the court’s press service told RAPSI.
Udaltsov was arrested by police on Tuesday in the aftermath of a rally against the national pension reform.
The activist has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On July 28, political left organizations held a mass rally against the pension reform in Russia. Allegedly, Udaltsov took part in the public action before appearing at the designated location for a rally.
On July 19, the State Duma passed in the first reading amendments to the pension system. The document, which was suggested in mid-June by the government, provides a gradual increase in the retirement age of up to 65 years for men and up to 63 years for women.
