MOSCOW, August 24 (RAPSI) – A criminal case has been opened against members of Right Sector nationalist organization banned in Russia over calls for killing 50 Russian officials, the Investigative Committee’s press service reports Friday.
According to investigators, on May 10, 2018, the extremist organization’s own court delivered a judgment of death to 50 Russian public, law enforcement and court officials, who they argued that took part in the investigation into Right Sector member Alexander Kostenko.
In May 2015, a court in Simferopol sentenced Kostenko to 4 years and 2 months in prison for willful injuring a Berkut officer during mass riots in Kiev.
Russian investigators plan to bring charges against the suspects and put them on the international wanted list soon, the statement reads.
Right Sector is a Ukrainian association of radical nationalist organizations. In January and February 2014, its members clashed with police and seized administrative buildings in Kiev. Since April 2014, Right Sector has been involved in fighting the protest movement in eastern Ukraine.
In November 2014, Russia’s Supreme Court declared Right Sector an extremist group and banned its activity in Russia. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Right Sector leader Dmitry Yarosh for alleged incitement of terrorism.
In January 2015, Right Sector was added to the Russian register of prohibited organizations.
