MOSCOW, September 18 (RAPSI) – The Commercial Court of Kemerovo Region has seized assets worth 13.9 billion rubles ($206 million) belonging to the former State Duma MP Vadim Varshavsky charged with embezzlement and three ex-managers of Guryev Steel Works, the oldest plant in Siberia, according to court records.
A motion to seize the assets of Varshavsky, Leonid Sergeyev, Vladimir Dvoryanchikov and Vladimir Yaskin has been filed by a bankruptcy supervisor of Guryev Steel Works, Sergey Rogov.
Guryev Steel Works, the oldest plant in Siberia, was founded in 1816. In November 2016, the enterprise was declared bankrupt. The plant was a part of Estar group of iron and steel companies owned by Varshavsky.
Varshavsky was also an owner of two other manufacturing plants Rostov Electrometallurgical Plant and Donbiotech engaged in grain processing. Rostov Electrometallurgical Plant was declared bankrupt in 2017.
The former lawmaker is currently held in detention on embezzlement charges. According to investigators, he stole 2.5 billion rubles ($37 million) from Petrocommerce bank.
