MOSCOW, September 21 (RAPSI) – The Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow on Friday collected over 32 million rubles (about $500,000) from Kogalymavia in favor of relatives of victims killed in the airline’s plane crash in Egypt in 2015, RAPSI reports from the courtroom.

The court also held to allot monthly allowance totaling to about 350,000 rubles ($5,300) for over 20 plaintiffs who lost a breadwinner in the crash. Each of them will receive from 4,000 to 30,000 rubles. Ten claimants were denied compensation.

The consolidated lawsuit filed by more than 100 victims’ relatives thus was granted in part. The case was heard behind closed doors.

The compensation was recovered only from the air carrier. Initially, four claims were lodged. Other defendants in the case were Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty, AerCap Holdings N.V., Ingosstrakh and Triomed company.

The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia, crashed into a mountainous area of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015, leaving 224 people dead. The airliner was flying from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg in Russia.

A militant group linked to Islamic State terrorist organization, prohibited in Russia, said in a statement that it had brought down the plane in response to Russian airstrikes in Syria. As a consequence of the attack, Russia cancelled air travel and tourist visits to Egypt.
