MOSCOW, October 30 (RAPSI) – A court in Russia’s city of Perm has upheld a 1-year suspended sentence given to pensioner Igor Troshev for poppy farming in his yard, refusing to mitigate the punishment, his lawyer Egor Mikhailov has told RAPSI.
The ruling will be appealed again, according to the attorney.
Investigators claimed that 467 poppy bushes were seized from the pensioner’s garden in July. An examination found that the flowers were opium. Troshev was convicted and sentenced for illegal narcotic plant cultivation.
In October, the Perm Region’s prosecutors suggested review of the case on the grounds of procedural faults being a cause to reversal of judgement. According to prosecutors, a court did not appraise public danger and probable consequences of the crime.
