MOSCOW, April 3 (RAPSI) – A 41-year-old national of Azerbaijan accused of smuggling rare falcons listed in the Red Book of Russia will go on trial in the Republic of Dagestan, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports Wednesday on its website.
Prosecutors have approved indictment, and the case has been forwarded to court for hearing. The defendant is charged with illegal acquisition of highly valued wild animals and illegal wildlife transfer across the Customs Union’s border, the statement reads.
According to investigators, in November 2018, the defendant came to a Dagestan customs control zone from the Eurasian Economic Union’s customs territory. The man attempted to illegally transport three rare falcons «Falco peregrinus» in his car. As a result of improper transportation, two birds died.
