MOSCOW, May 29 (RAPSI) – Belgium has extradited wanted Russian citizen Immampashi Akhmadov charged with participating in terrorist activities in Syria, the Federal Security Service’s Public Relations Centre reports Wednesday.
According to the Russian security service, in 2014, Akhmadov espousing ideas of radical Islam joined the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization banned in Russia and took part in the warfare against Syrian governmental forces.
Russia put him on the international wanted list. The man was arrested in Belgium in June 2018 and placed in custody expecting extradition. Later, Belgian authorities granted Russia’s request for Akhmadov’s extradition, the statement reads.
Currently, the defendant is in Russian detention. Investigation is ongoing.
