MOSCOW, July 17 (RAPSI) – A court in Chita, a city in Russia’s Trans-Baikal Territory, has ordered the Finance Ministry to pay 300,000 rubles (about $5,000) to ex-inmate Denis Katrin for tortures in detention, lawyer Roman Sukachev has told RAPSI.
According to Sukachev, in late 2016, two officers of a Chita detention center Alexey Kondratyev and Bulat Sodnomov beat several defendants. Following that, doctors excised Katrin’s spleen, he said.
In July 2018, a court in Chita found the detention officers guilty of abuse of power with the use of violence. Kondratyev received 6 years in prison, Sodnomov was sentenced to 4 years. In December, Kondratyev’s sentence was reduced by 1.5 years.
