MOSCOW, October 21 (RAPSI) – A court in Russia’s Republic of Ingushetia collected 1.5 million rubles ($23,500) from the Interior Ministry in favor of Lemka Doliyeva, whose son had died after being beaten by police officers, lawyer for the injured party Andrey Sabinin told RAPSI on Monday.
The court reduced the sum of the demanded compensation by 10 times, that’s why the ruling would be appealed, the attorney said.
Six police officers involved in the victim’s death were earlier sentenced to prison terms ranging from 3 to 10.5 years, and another one received a 3-year suspended sentence. Depending on their roles, they stood charged with abuse of power with the use of force resulted in grave consequences, extortion, theft and use of forged documents.
