MOSCOW, February 7 (RAPSI) – A criminal case has been opened against a chief of the Federal Penitentiary Service’s Directorate for Republic of North Ossetia on suspicion of embezzling 3 million rubles (about $50,000), the Investigative Committee’s press service reports.

The official has been arrested. Charges will be brought against him soon, the statement reads.

According to investigators, on April 22, 2019, the suspect ordered a local penal colony to sign a state contract with the company Rusbuild on capital repairs to a special squads dormitory located within a penal colony in Vladikavkaz. The company failed to conduct the repair works by June 17, 2019, but the official ordered his subordinates to transfer 3 million rubles to the contractor.
