MOSCOW, March 12 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Zamoskvoretsky District Court has sentenced ex-deputy chief of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) Oleg Korshunov to 9 years behind bars for embezzling over 155 million rubles ($2 million)during supplies of road fuel and sugar for penitentiary facilities, according to a RAPSI correspondent.

He has been also barred from holding state authority posts for 6 years.

The defendant’s former subordinates Svetlana Alekseyeva has received 8 years in jail and a 3-million-ruble fine. He colleague Alexey Danilov is to serve 5 years in penal colony.

The court has held that Korshunov and his accomplices had purchased sugar and fuel at over-inflated prices.

However, Korshunov has been acquitted of taking 40 million rubles in bribes.

This is the second embezzlement case against Korshunov. Other defendants are two his subordinates Svetlana Alekseyeva and Alexey Danilov.

In July 2019, Korshunov received the prison term and was fined 900,000 rubles (about $14,000). In addition, he was divested of his service grade and forbidden to hold public offices for 3 years.

Investigators believe that in 2015 Korshunov conspired with CEO of Russian footwear company Datse Group, Smbat Arutyunyan, and the head of state-run production company FSIN Russia Vitaly Morusov. Allegedly, Korshunov ordered to use prisoner labor to manufacture footwear from cheap materials provided by Datse Group. Later, he allegedly facilitated signing of a state contract with FSIN Russia.

Moreover, Korshunov is a defendant in a third criminal case. He is accused of abuse of power during the construction of a detention center in Crimea.

Korshunov was appointed to the post of FSIN deputy head in March 2014. He has been bestowed the rank of Full State Counsellor 2nd Class of the Russian Federation. In October 2017, President Vladimir Putin relieved him of the post.
