MOSCOW, August 13 (RAPSI) – A court in Russia’s Zabaikalsky Krai has sentenced a former employee of one of the regional penal colonies to 4.5 years in jail for taking bribes from a convict, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

He has been also found guilty of abuse of power.

According to case papers, in 2019, the defendant received three bribes amounting to more than 39,000 rubles from a convict. For this sum he repeatedly allowed the prisoner to transfer banned items and cellphones to the colony’s territory. Following that, the penal employee was fired.

The convict was found guilty of giving bribes and received 7.5 years in penal colony on several counts.
