MOSCOW, August 31 (RAPSI) – A court has ordered a resident of Rostov-on-Don suspected of extortion and illegal access to information of a private company be put in detention, RAPSI has learnt from the press service of Russia’s Interior Ministry.

According to the police, in early 2020, the suspect using special knowledge enciphered sensitive computer information stored on a local network of a major Russian company through a cipher algorithm. He extorted bitcoins for the information decoding. The injured party transferred 0.8 bitcoin (about 500,000 rubles/ $7,000) to the suspect and following that turned to police.

During searches police seized computers with information essential in the case.
