MOSCOW, November 6 (RAPSI) – Moscow’s Lefortovsky District Court has granted a prosecutor’s bid to block access to a website selling exotic animals, including Indian elephants and black widow spiders, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The website has put up for sale prohibited insects, black widow spiders, karakurt spiders and deathstalkers among them; exotic animals including Indian elephants, jaguars and Nile crocodiles. Prices for the animals ranged from tens of thousands to several millions rubles.
Russian legislation envisages criminal and administrative sanctions for illegal purchase, keeping, transportation and sale of rare animals from the Red Book. Distribution of corresponding information is prohibited in the Russian Federation, prosecutors have stated.
Therefore, prosecutors have requested that court declared information published on the said website stiff. The court has granted the motion.
