MOSCOW, November 19 (RAPSI) – A court in Yaroslavl has sentenced eleven former officers of a regional penal colony to prison terms ranging from 3 years to 4 years and 3 months for torturing an inmate, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia reports.
Additionally, they have been banned to hold law enforcement posts for 2.5 years. Six defendants have been released in courtroom due to the completion of sentence. A case against one penitentiary employee has been suspended because of serious illness, the statement reads.
The defendants have been found guilty of abuse of office.
According to case papers, in June 2017, the defendants beat one of the prisoners. Their actions resulted in the decay of the victim’s health.
