MOSCOW, March 9 (RAPSI) — Colombian citizen Edgar Alejandro Valero, who stands charged with stealing a travel suitcase with jewelry at a fair in the city of Kazan, was extradited to Russia from Argentina, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office informs RAPSI on Tuesday.
Investigators believe that in July 2018 in the city of Kazan, in the pavilion of the Kazanskaya Yarmarka exhibition center, Valero and his accomplices stole a travel suitcase from an employee of the Seven Diamonds jewelry company, which contained jewelry worth 160 million rubles ($2 million at the current exchange rate). The Colombian fled from the scene of the crime in a car he prepared beforehand, according to the supervisory authority’s statement.
The man was arrested in absentia in Russia in September 2018 and put on the wanted list. A year later, he was apprehended in Argentina, and after additional evidence was presented, it was decided to extradite him to Russia as a result of well-coordinated actions of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, which could organize close cooperation with competent authorities of Argentina, the statement reads.
