MOSCOW, March 17 (RAPSI) – A court in Russia’s Astrakhan has sentenced a woman from the Republic of Dagestan to 3 years in penal colony for tobacco products smuggling in the amount of more than 320 million rubles (about $4.5 million), the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office informs RAPSI.
The woman has been found guilty of illegal moving of tobacco products on a large scale by a group of people in conspiracy across the Customs Border of the Customs Union. In addition to the prison term, she has been fined 600,000 rubles.
The defendant along with her unidentified accomplices has organized the trafficking of a large lot of unexcised tobacco products worth over 320 million rubles to one of the Astrakhan harbors. She declared the shipment as the paste of tomatoes. Based on the declaration, the cigarettes have been let out to the customs duty area of the Customs union and set aside from the Astrakhan Region, according to prosecutors.
