MOSCOW, March 22 (RAPSI) – The Supreme Court of Russia will proceed with cassation appeals against sentence passed on seven members of a St. Petersburg cell of a group known as Set, meaning Network, banned in Russia as terrorist, the court’s website informs.
The hearing is scheduled for April 27.
In February 2020, the Privolzhsky District Military Court found Arman Sagynbayev, Dmitry Pchelintsev, Ilya Shakursky, Vasily Kuksov, Andrey Chernov, Mikhail Kulkov, Maxim Ivankin guilty of participation in a terrorist community and sentenced them to jail terms ranging from 6 to 18 years. Later, an appeals instance upheld the ruling.
According to investigators, the terrorist group members plotted to overthrow the government and commit terrorist attacks.
The defendants pleaded not guilty insisting that earlier confessed under torture.
