MOSCOW, March 25 (RAPSI) — Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and Investigative Committee have arrested in Moscow an alleged member of Shamil Basayev's gang, German Arbinin, who stands charged of banditry, armed rebellion and infringement on the life of a policeman, the FSB Public Relations Center informs RAPSI on Thursday.

FSB, working in cooperation with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, could form a conclusive evidence base that a native of the Chechen Republic Arbinin was a participant in this crime, however, he had not carried punishment for this crime yet, the FSB noted in the statement.

The man is charged of banditry, armed rebellion, and an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. Investigation is going to ask the court to choose a preventive measure for Arbinin in the form of detention.

The FSB is confident that in 2000 Arbinin along with other gang members attacked servicemen of the 6th parachute airborne company of the 76th Pskov Airborne Division in the period from February 29 to March in the area of the village Ulus-Kert, Shatoisky district of the Chechen Republic, during which 84 paratroopers were killed.
