MOSCOW, April 28 (RAPSI) – A court in the Moscow Region has sentenced a former drug control department chief of the Mytishchi Directorate of the Interior Ministry and a former attorney to 2.5 years in penal colony each for fraud, the Moscow Region’s Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee reports.

A civil 2 million-ruble ($27,000) lawsuit filed in the proceedings is to be considered separately.

According to the court and investigators, in May 2019, the defendants conspired to take possession of money belonging to a man under investigation. Using his job position, then police officer deceived the man and proposed him to give the attorney 3 million rubles ($40,000) for alleged non-bringing to the criminal liability and non-application of arrest and detention against him. The man agreed to give them only 2 million rubles. The criminals spent the money for their own purposes, investigators claimed. The injured party applied to law enforcement over fraud committed against him.

Over 10 searches were conducted at the defendants’ premises, over 20 interrogations were held and more than 10 examinations were carried out as part of the case.
