MOSCOW, August 2 (RAPSI) — The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has made a submission to the Acting Head of the Social Insurance Fund Alexey Polikashin demanding him to remedy breaches of the legislation on social protection of disabled children and on the contract procurement system, the body’s press service informs RAPSI.

The General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation has received several complaints from citizens raising disabled children about the untimely provision of technical means of rehabilitation they needed. Expensive wheelchairs and other necessary items were not purchased for a long time, and compensation to parents for an independent purchase was often not provided in a timely manner, the body said in a statement.

The prosecutor's office registered such violations of the relevant legislation in the Astrakhan and Irkutsk regions, as well as in other regions, where the offices of the Social Insurance Fund failed to fulfill their obligations on the purchase of rehabilitation means for disabled children in time and the respective procedures were delayed for several months.
