MOSCOW, September 8 (RAPSI) — The Moscow City Court has reduced by 3 months the suspended sentence given to political scientist and academic Nikolay Platoshkin on charges of “inciting unrest”.
A 700,000-rubles ($9,500) fine imposed on Platoshkin has been cut to 500,000 rubles (about $7,000 at the current exchange rate).
In May, Moscow's Gagarinsky District Court handded Platoshkin a 5-year suspended sentence and fined him for spreading fake information on YouTube and calling on people to resist the anti-coronavirus measures.
A case against Platoshkin was opened in the summer of 2020. Since then, he was held under house arrest.
Platoshkin is a Russian diplomat, political analyst and historian, head of diplomacy and international affairs department of the Moscow Humanitarian University, leader of the movement For New Socialism.
