MOSCOW, September 15 (RAPSI) — A resident of the Kurgan Region has been sentenced to compulsory labor for cruel treatment of a dog, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office reports.

The court hearing the case established that the man beat a dog, which was tied to a chain, with a log. After the animal stopped showing signs of life, he put it in a plastic bag and took it to the nearest dumpster, the body said in its statement.

The dog was discovered the next day by local residents. Specialists of the interdistrict veterinary center found that the animal had extensive injuries.

The abuser told the court that he decided to kill the dog because it howled at night and prevented him from sleeping. He agreed with the charges brought against him and pleaded guilty. The magistrate found the man guilty of a cruelty to animals crime. 

The defendant was sentenced to 180 hours of compulsory labor.
